Why We Created HELD

As practitioners, mother, and women who understand the profound transformation of matrescence, we recognised a gap in how society supports mothers through this pivotal time. Too often, mothers are expected to "bounce back" or simply manage their overwhelm, without acknowledging that their entire nervous system has been rewired.

We created HELD because we believe mothers deserve more than survival strategies — they deserve to thrive. We believe that healing happens in community, that babies are not barriers to self-care but partners in regulation, and that the wisdom mothers seek is already within them.

Together, we hold space for the both/and of motherhood — the joy and the grief, the expansion and the contraction, the overwhelming love and the bone-deep exhaustion. We understand that becoming a mother is not just a role you take on, but an awakening to a new version of yourself.

Our combined expertise in nervous system regulation, somatic practices, and trauma-informed care creates a unique container for transformation. We don't just teach techniques — we model what it looks like to be held while holding others.

Philippa Scott

Therapist, Coach & Matrescence Mentor

Philippa understands the profound transformation that occurs when a woman becomes a mother — because she's walked that path herself, both personally and professionally. As a therapist, coach, and matrescence mentor, she specialises in supporting women through the raw, beautiful, and often overwhelming journey of motherhood.

Her work is born from a deep knowing that becoming a mother isn't just about having a baby — it's about a complete rewiring of your nervous system, your identity, and your way of being in the world. Philippa creates sacred spaces where women can safely explore this transformation, reconnect with their embodied wisdom, and remember that they are not broken, they are becoming.

Through her practice, Philippa weaves together nervous system education, somatic practices, and intuitive guidance to help mothers navigate the tender territory of matrescence. She believes that when a mother feels held, regulated, and connected to her own inner knowing, she becomes a source of calm and strength for her entire family.

Philippa's approach is gentle yet powerful, trauma-informed, and rooted in the understanding that healing happens in relationship — with ourselves, our babies, and our community.

Amanda Fincham

Craniosacral & Remedial Massage Practitioner

With over two decades of experience helping people reconnect with their bodies, Amanda brings a rare depth of knowledge and compassion to her work with mothers and babies. As a craniosacral and remedial massage practitioner, she has witnessed firsthand the profound impact that nervous system regulation can have on both physical and emotional healing.

Amanda's journey led her to deepen her focus on trauma-informed touch and somatic practices, recognising that true healing happens when we feel safe enough to be present in our own skin. Her work is rooted in the understanding that our bodies hold our stories — and that through gentle, respectful touch, we can help the nervous system remember its natural capacity for regulation and ease.

Specialising in supporting clients of all ages from newborns through adulthood, Amanda has a particular gift for working with the mother-baby dyad. She understands that when we support a mother's nervous system, we're also supporting her baby's developing capacity for regulation and resilience.

Her approach combines scientific understanding with intuitive wisdom, creating a safe container where healing can unfold naturally. Amanda believes that every person — regardless of age — deserves to experience the deep safety that comes from a regulated nervous system.
